My first Emerald Cup
Last weekend we took our first real road trip in the new rig. We trekked up north to the Redwoods, to Area 101 the Mecca for music, spirituality and a sort of salon for the greatest outdoor growers in the world. Located in the middle of the Emerald Triangle, Area 101 is off Highway 101, just north of Laytonville. It is near the border of Mendocino county and Humboldt County. You can’t miss the place with the colorful buildings and extraterrestrial murals. We were invited to a combination Wrap Party for the 2013 Staff and the first Official meeting of The Emerald Cup 2014. Unfortunately due to a previous engagement we missed the meeting, pulled in just after the group photo but in time for the “wrap party”. We mingled a little, met some new friends and of course we got to sample some of the top ten entries from 2013.

Big changes are in store for this years celebration (including the absence of Fuzzy’s Old Growth Fuzz….) 2014 is going to be bigger and better yet. It will be held again at the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds. Tim Blake and company already hard at work on the music lineup hope to have big announcements hopefully by 4-20.
The first year I attended was in 2010 at area 101. Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real Played two epic nights in the woods. In 2012 they moved it to the Mateel Center. 2013 they held it in Sonoma County at the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds. history of the worlds only outdoor cannabis competition.
